Hey friends.... I'm back! But don't expect much. I do miss blogging so I'm going to start my blog up again with an experience that has earned me MOTHER of the Year Award. Please do not be jealous that this is my award and I am giving it to myself. After you read this story you will realize that I truly deserve it.
Tyson came up to me at the beginning of December and told me that he was having some pain in his heal. I thought at first it would be growing pains and it would probably go away. A few weeks later he said it was still causing him pain. I tried to put a gel pad in his shoe to see if that would make a difference. It didn't. So after a few more weeks of complaining I thought I better take this kid to a podiatrist to find out what the problem was. The doctor took x-rays and watched him walk up and down the hall. He couldn't detect any problems so he asked to see his shoes.
Now I'm going to stop in this point of the story and take you back to the month of August when I was buying school clothes for my kids. The lovely store of Nordstroms was having a sale on kids shoes. I decided to go there and see if I could find any shoes for my boys. I saw the shoe of all shoe, GEO TEC which I have always wanted to get for my boys but they were normally an outrages price of $90.00 for kids shoes!! But today they were on sale for $35.00. That is still a lot of money for kids shoes but I just had to get them for Tyson because these shoes were incredible. I mean they must be for that much money right? Couldn't he actually run faster, jump higher? So I purchased the shoes and Tyson wore them every day for the last 4 months. Right around the time Tyson started complaining about his heal I was asking my boys if they needed new shoes. I usually have to buy new ones again for Christmas because they wear them out so fast. Brayden said he was in desperate need (mostly because he loves new shoes) but sweet Tyson told me his were just fine. I asked if they were worn out at all. He told me they weren't bad at all and I completely trusted his judgement because he was the one wearing them every day. Now in my mind Im doing a little celebration dance on my purchase 4 months earlier thinking to myself how buying expensive shoes are totally worth it! Now back to the current story.
The podiatrist picked up Tyson's shoe and turned it over and to my horror there were not one but three holes in the bottom of his shoe and then he began to bend the shoe in half showing me all support was gone out of his shoe. He then began his lecture and with new shoes that actually gave support, it could solve his problem and seemed to look at me extra closely like he was examining me for a learning problem or something. I quickly reassured him that I was fit to be a mother by mentioning the warm omelet that I had made my kids early that morning for breakfast so he would not call Social Services on me. Then I told him we would be stopping at the shoe store before going to school today. So out of his office we RAN as fast as we could and as promised we stopped at the first shoe store we could find. I then bribed Tyson the works burger at IN and OUT before dropping him off to school. So what did this Mother of the Year learn?
#1 Never trust your kids when you ask them a question- always check for yourself.
#2 Don't be so stupid to think that expensive = quality
#3 If you are going to be that stupid, at least figure it out before the $50.00 copay and the humiliation you feel at the doctors office.
Wish I had a picture of the shoes, threw them away at the shoe store. If anyone else thinks they deserve this award please feel free to share your experience.

What a story Lis!!! I loved hearing it again. He he he:)
I'm so glad you're back. I hardly blog anymore, but I check my friends! Anyways, I let my little one walk around with a broken arm for 2 weeks before I took her to a specialist. And you're right quality doesn't always = price, but just having cool shoes sometimes is worth the pain! I wear dumb shoes all the time that hurt my feet, back, and legs just because I like them. So no worries!
I know what you mean! I used to wear shoes that killed my feet but never told my mom because I loved the shoes so much!
Seriously, who would EVER think YOU were a BAD Mom!! Shame on that DR!! My stories may have you calling social services so I will just stay quiet on that one!!
Lisa, it's a fabulous story and one that I'm sure you and your family will be laughing about for a long time.
I think your one of the finest moms I know and your children know it too.
It's a good thing that you have thick skin and can take on any Podiatrist any day.
